THE MUSEUM ASSOCIATION

The Los Angeles County Fire Museum is the brand for the public face. The County of Los Angeles Fire Museum Association is the official organization that oversees all of the Museum’s assets.

In the mid-1970s, two Los Angeles County Firefighters began what would become The County of Los Angeles Fire Museum Association. By the end of the 80’s, our Museum was formally organized under the State of California as a not-for-profit public benefit corporation.

The Association acquired, and still maintains, a space in the LACo Fire Department Headquarters in Los Angeles, storage units at the Department’s Air facility in Pacoima, and a large warehouse in South Gate. Around the year 2000, the Association rented an old auto repair shop from the city of Bellflower, CA. This facility became the first public face for the Association and allowed us to open to the public for the first time.

In July of 2018, the City of Bellflower became a partner with the Association. The showcase Museum is located on the bottom floor of Bellflower’s MAYNE EVENTS CENTER. The auto body repair building was purchased by The Association the same year and now houses the Los Angeles County Fire Museum’s “The Shop”, the place where all the hard restoration work is now performed.
